Dr. John D. Anderson is a professor of Aerospace Engineering at the
University of Maryland, and is the Curator for Aerodynamics at the
National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Dr. Anderson's
"Introduction to Flight" is a classic text for first semester
aeronautical engineers. The explanations are clear, and understandable
to someone with a knowledge of high-school mathematics. Anderson's
inclusion of anecdotes and historical references gives this book a
vitality that sets it apart from most textbooks.

"Fundamentals of Aerodynamics" is the next step up from
"Introduction to Flight" (see above). It is a thorough,
mathematically-based overview of aerodynamics, illustrated with
discussions of aviation history and development. The latest edition
includes material on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Aimed at
upper level aerospace engineering students, this book includes
comprehensive derivations of the air flow, forces and moments of
aircraft operating at low, supersonic and hypersonic speeds. |
