NOTE: At the time of the latest edition of this book (1959),
Ira Abbott was the Director of Aeronautical and Space Research at NASA,
and Albert Doenhoff was a research engineer at NASA. The National
Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 created NASA from the National
Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Much of the aeronautical
research in the early part of the 20th century occurred under the
auspices of NACA, and many technical reports on aeronautical engineering
are available online at the NACA
Technical Report Server.
This book is the classic text describing airfoil (and
hydrofoil) section design. Much of the book describes the mathematics
behind airfoils. Section characteristics for most NACA wing sections are
included in a large set of appendices in this book. |
